In 1970, Eldon & Florence (known as Flossie) Ayers were looking for a new challenge. Their children were grown and
in college or married.

The Layton Store was up for sale. That had a certain appeal to them. However, the bank didn't agree. On a whim,
Flossie asked if a loan was not available for the store how about for a garbage truck! The bank officer replied with
enthusiasm - "That would be possible!" And so Eldon Ayers Sanitary Collection was born. They bought a new 1970
Dodge with a 25 yd packer.

Flossie continued her job as Sandyston-Walpack School board secretary and Eldon & crew started picking up trash
in Sandyston and Montague.

Flossie did the bills in the evening. She was accounts receivable, accounts payable and customer service. Eldon
worked hard every day serving his customers and maintained his trucks at night.

Today, over 40 years later, we're still hard at work servicing customers throughout Sussex County. Flossie still enjoys
seeing her fleet of trucks but her children and grandchildren now handle the day to day activity of Ayers Sanitation.

Our Holiday Poems:
Beginning the first year of operation, Eldon and Flossie wrote a Christmas Poem each year to their customers. Here are
